Accompanied by his team of musicians, including the renowned tabla player Gurinder Singh Rajan, Bhai Maninder Singh Ji performed soul-stirring kirtan and offered heartfelt prayers for the peace of Sewa Singh’s soul. The powerful and beautiful kirtan brought comfort, reflection, and a profound spiritual presence to all those in attendance.
This occasion marked a significant moment for the local community, as it was the first time a figure of Bhai Maninder Singh Ji’s stature visited Hull. His presence added a deeply meaningful and memorable touch to an already emotional day, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who gathered to pay their respects.
First Death Anniversary
This video marks the first death anniversary of Sardar Sewa Singh Gola, a moment of reflection, remembrance, and deep spiritual connection for his family and the wider community.
On this special occasion, the well-known and respected priest Bhai Kamaljeet Singh Ji was invited to attend and perform kirtan, as Sewa Singh Ji had a deep love for listening to his soulful recitations. His son, Guljar Singh, shares heartfelt memories of their journeys together to kirtan programmes, where his father would often play and listen to Bhai Kamaljeet Singh Ji’s kirtan in the car — especially the shabad “Pane Sewar Ki Aappa Rakhay,” which held special meaning for him.
He also recalls a cherished moment when his father met Bhai Kamaljeet Singh Ji at one of these programmes. On the journey home that day, Sewa Singh Ji joyfully sang the shabad he had heard: “Meray Ram, Meray Ram, Meray Ram Ram, Harjan Ke Ho Baljaye,” repeating it with great devotion all the way back.
These memories were beautifully reflected during the anniversary gathering, creating a peaceful and emotional atmosphere. The kirtan deeply resonated with both the family and the congregation, bringing everyone together in remembrance of Sewa Singh Gola and his lasting contributions to the city of Hull.
First Death Anniversary
This video captures another deeply spiritual and touching moment from the first death anniversary of Sardar Sewa Singh Gola, where the well-known jatha, Bhai Kulveer Singh Ji Jalandhar Wale, was specially invited to lead the congregation in kirtan.
Accompanied by a talented UK-based tabla player, the jatha created a powerful and immersive atmosphere, bringing the sangat together through heartfelt and soulful recitations. The kirtan continued to strengthen the spiritual connection felt throughout the anniversary, allowing attendees to reflect, remember, and find peace.
Many members of the congregation shared how therapeutic the kirtan was, with some entering a meditative state while listening. One particularly beautiful and memorable shabad performed by Bhai Kulveer Singh Ji was “Tujh Bin Surat Kare Ko Meri,” which left a lasting impression on all present, along with many other deeply moving renditions.
The event became a meaningful tribute, uniting family, friends, and the wider community in remembrance of Sewa Singh Gola, while honouring his legacy through the power of kirtan.
Event At Hull Historic Centre
On 4th April 2026, an event held at the Hull History Centre brought together around 60 members of the local community to celebrate the life and legacy of Sewa Singh Gola, a key pioneer in the early Sikh community of Hull. The gathering coincided with Vaisakhi, the Sikh New Year, and combined remembrance with cultural education. It provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on his remarkable journey from the hardships of Partition and migration to his role in helping establish Sikh life and identity in Hull.
The video footage from the event captures a range of meaningful moments throughout the day, including community engagement, storytelling, and cultural displays. It shows visitors learning about Sewa Singh Gola’s life, his commitment to his Sikh faith, and his role in maintaining identity through practices such as wearing the turban and upholding the Five Ks.
